The International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) was formed from a series of mergers of associations, with the first created in 1903. Having celebrated it's centenary in 2003, it now has over 6,000 members throughout the world. As a member school of the IDTA, DanceXpress is able to provide a structured medal test/examination system for all ages and grades/ability levels. Any holder of a medal is entitled to be able to participate within medallist competitions either run by the IDTA, or some external organisations such as Supadance League, within twelve months after having taken the exam.
For details of the classes and private lessons available at our studio locations in Westerham and Cowden in Kent and Highbrook near Haywards Heath in Sussex please have a look at our 'Weekly Itinerary' page of this website. For details of the character of and some of the history behind each dance please take a look at our 'Dance Styles' page.
One of the most predigious competitions organised and run by the IDTA in which DanceXpress participates is the annual Nationwide Medallist of the Year competition the finals of which are held each year at the fabulous Empress Ballroom in the Wintergardens in Blackpool. Qualifying heats are danced in the autumn of the previous year all over the country and only the top twelve from each region are selected in each age group and gender to have the opportunity to dance for the title of Nationwide Medallist of the Year. Although dancing with a partner the competition in each age group is separate for male and female dancers.
