Supadance League
The Supadance League is unique as it reaches the grass roots of Dancesport in the UK, building friendly competitiveness between medallist dancers throughout the country. It helps dancers bridge the gap between social and competitive dancing. The team spirit that is created within the leagues is supporting and encouraging. It also provides a springboard and the experience and ability necessary for couples to move into larger competitions with confidence and success. This competitive concept is something that DanceXpress is proud and pleased to be a part of.
If you have never thought about competing before, possibly feeling a little intimidated to try it on your own, or maybe you have and felt that you found it a lonely experience at a competition on your own. Supadance League may be just thing for you, whether you are young or old (but still young at heart!) DanceXpress have a number of teams competing at all ages and ability levels, in which you will find tremendous support at every competition you attend.
The Format
Competitions are run in Leagues; currently one in the North and one in the South (a third is possibly to be introduced in 2008, so watch this space!). DanceXpress and every other school that wishes to participate in Supadance League enters teams in the Southern League. Teams are made up of four couples at each match. An initial match is danced at the start of each year by each team to determine into which Division (One, or Two) they would be placed for the four official matches to come later through the year. The four couples each take it in turn to dance one of four dances against each couple on the opposing team, or teams.
The official four matches will usually be danced with Waltz, Quickstep, Cha Cha and Jive on the first and third matches and Foxtrot, Tango, Rumba and Samba on the second and fourth matches (except for the Juvenile teams, who are only expected to dance the Waltz, Quickstep, Cha Cha and Jive). Supporting competitions for each age group are usually danced at each event in addition to the team matches. Couples will each be marked according to their performance against the competitors on the floor and the team total will be added up at the end of the match to give a cumulative score, which will determine the team placing overall. At the end of all four matches through the year, the team with the highest cumulative points in each separate division and age group is crowned the Southern Counties Champions (unless of course you are a team competing up in the Northern league).
At the end of each season each team which has danced in a league match has a chance to enter the National Supadance Finals and pit themselves once again against all of the teams from the Southern league and the Northern league in a bid to secure a National title. At Finals each team has to dance all eight dances against each competitor team. The atmosphere and excitement created at all of these events and in particular at the Finals can only be described as electric and awe inspiring.
Success in 2007!!
Well done to all our teams in the 2007 Southern Division Championships. The official confirmation is that we are the Adults Second Division and Over 35's First and Second Division Southern Counties Champions for 2007. An exceptionally close and exciting competition across each of the four matches danced through the year with everything danced hard for on the last match - well done everyone!!
What an amazing weekend at National Finals at Prestatyn in November this year! Well done to all those couples and DanceXpress teams that took part! With four teams dancing their way through intense semi finals to qualify for the Finals on the Sunday. Special congratulations to our gold medal winners and National Champions for 2007 in our Over 35 Second Division team - with the experienced hands of John, Carol and Frank leading the way for our new dancers Maria, Len, Chantal, Dennis and Amanda combining to take the title, we are immensely proud!! Well done to our Adults Second Division and Over 35's First Division teams who have both ended the year as Runners up to the National Champions in very closely fought competitions. Last but definitely not least well done to our Juniors for qualifying for the first time to dance in the final and in particular Grace and Ashton who danced up from the Juvenile division to make it possible for the others to complete the four couples required for each team. Louise has created a video of her photographs from the weekend for all to see on You Tube.

Ashton and Grace's poem from Supadance National Finals 2007
We went to a Super dance, to have a chance.
We hoped to win, with a grin.
We tried our best, in the contest.
But must admit, we're not quite as good as the rest.
Mark and Jo, always dance with a glow.
Vicky and Amanda, are great at the Samba.
Justin and Emma........well there is no dilemma!!!
This is from Ashton and Grace, to say thank you to Angela, for letting us embrace, the dance floor with well good pace!
